Antique French Solid Brass Three-Arm Wall Sconce, Louis XVI Revival

An impressive antique French wall sconce crafted in heavy solid brass, distinguished by its substantial proportions and richly cast neoclassical ornamentation. Executed in the Louis XVI Revival tradition, the piece features a balanced three-arm composition centered around an architectural backplate crowned by a classical urn and flame finial.

Three gracefully scrolling candle arms emerge from the central body, each supporting an ornate candle cup and deeply modeled foliate bobeche. The casting is particularly decorative throughout, incorporating acanthus leaves, fluting, beaded borders and classical motifs characteristic of the renewed interest in Louis XVI design during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The sconce has a wonderful sculptural quality and considerable weight, with deeply defined casting that gives the ornament exceptional dimension. The brass retains its naturally aged surface and warm patina, with subtle variations and traces of wear that contribute to the character of the piece.
