Combining embossed brass, wood, and beveled mirror glass, this remarkable piece features an elaborate arrangement of sculptural roses, flowing botanical motifs, and intricate decorative borders, all enhanced by a naturally aged golden patina.

Originally designed as a practical yet decorative household accessory, cabinets of this kind offered a convenient place to keep grooming essentials neatly organized and close at hand. Often associated with dressing areas and bedrooms, they reflect a time when even the most functional everyday objects were created with extraordinary attention to beauty and detail.

Behind the beveled mirror, a hinged wooden door opens to reveal a richly textured brass interior with two hanging brushes. Brushes of this kind were traditionally used for grooming and clothing care, helping to remove dust, lint, and loose particles from garments before dressing or putting them away. Their decorative metal backs feature intricate floral patterns that beautifully complement the cabinet itself.

The inclusion of the brushes offers a particularly charming glimpse into domestic life at the turn of the 20th century, when personal grooming and the careful maintenance of clothing formed part of everyday household rituals. Rather than being hidden away, these practical accessories were thoughtfully incorporated into the decorative furnishings of the home.

The cabinet retains its functional hinged door, interior hooks, and retaining chain, preserving the thoughtful construction of the original design. Its richly embossed brass frame, dimensional floral detailing, and darkened recesses create a beautiful sense of depth and texture, while the beveled mirror adds a refined finishing touch.

Today, this extraordinary piece can be appreciated both as a functional wall cabinet and as a decorative object in its own right. Beautifully suited to an entryway, dressing room, bedroom, or thoughtfully curated gallery wall, it brings a sense of European history, romantic character, and collected elegance to contemporary interiors.

Origin: Netherlands

Period: Circa 1900, Art Nouveau

Materials: Embossed brass, wood, beveled mirror glass, and brush bristles.

Dimensions: Approximately 26.38” H × 15.35” W × 3.15” D (67 × 39 × 8 cm).

Condition: Very good antique condition with light surface wear consistent with age and gentle previous use.
